Deciding between a warranty or maintenance plan is often tough for homeowners. Both are ways to protect yourself against HVAC breakdowns, just in different ways. A warranty plan won’t prevent problems, but will cover a nice chunk of the expenses of fixing it. A maintenance plan tries to prevent breakdowns from occurring with regular service. When you’re making this decision, consider these benefits of a maintenance plan:
- Quicker fixes. Making a warranty claim can often be frustrating. There are forms to fill out and hoops to jump through in order to get your service or replacement. With a maintenance plan on the other hand, there are no hoops. You pick the company you want and become a regular client. When you have a problem, most service companies will do everything they can to get you up and running as soon as possible, it’s in their best interest to keep you happy.
- Worry-free maintenance. The main feature of a maintenance plan is of course the regular maintenance by a professional technician. You won’t have to worry about missing an important task or doing something wrong. If you have a warranty agreement you will either have to try to do maintenance on your own or hire a professional to come in anyways.
- Long-term savings. The result of regular maintenance is consistently low energy bills. Keeping your HVAC system running well also means there is less wear and tear placed on it. Finally, a maintenance plan will prevent large breakdowns, which often easily justify the price of a plan.
- You’re in control. As mentioned before, you pick the maintenance company that services your system. When you want to make a warranty claim, you typically have to go through approved companies, which may or may not be ones that you trust or have experience with.
