When at home there is nothing like the perfect temperature. Like Goldilocks, most of us want an ambient temperature that is neither too hot nor too cold, but just right. Did you know there is also a “just right” temperature for when you are not at home? Sometimes homeowners do not consider the temperature of their home when they are away. Here are some tips that will save you money when you manage your temperature.
Adjust Your Thermostat Back
If you live in the Detroit Metro area, like Grosse Pointe Farms or Royal Oak, you know that the weather can change rapidly. Set your thermostat back 10 to 15 degrees for at least eight hours a day for substantial savings. The best time to drop your thermostat back is when you will be away for the day. If you’re at home all day set it back when you go to sleep.
A Note or Alarm
If you forget to manage your temperature you could try several methods to help you. Write yourself a note and attach it to the front door so that on the way out you will remember to adjust the temperature. You can also use a little more high tech approach and set an alarm on your phone or computer calendar to remind you at a specific time everyday to manage your temperature.
Even More High Tech!
If you really want to get the job done using the latest tech, try a programmable thermostat. A programmable thermostat will take most of the burden of managing your temperature off your plate and mind. You can program it and forget it, resting assured that your temperature management is efficiently taking place. Here are some things that many programmable thermostats can allow you to do:
- Automatically set temperatures based on Energy Star guidelines
- Allow programming from computer
- Allow programming by phone
- Notify user of filter and system malfunction indicators
