If you suffer from summer allergies, you know how irritating they can be. Sometimes allergies are so intense they interrupt the normal flow of your daily life thanks to symptoms such as stuffy or runny noses, headaches, itchy eyes, congestion and constant sneezing.
Luckily, controlling the source of allergies can significantly reduce allergy symptoms in your home and help you breathe easier year round. Try the following methods to reduce allergens in your home:
- Change air filters: This should be done at least once every three months. This will help remove unwanted allergens such as dust and pet dander from your air system and keep it out of household circulation.
- Frequent cleaning: Vacuum all rooms at least once a week. Vacuum curtains and upholstery once a month. Change bedding every two weeks. Clean hard floors and dust every day to reduce the allergens in your home.
- Outside control: If you have plant and pollen allergies, removing these problems from your yard can help reduce your symptoms. Trim back any vegetation from around the house and especially near your air conditioning unit outdoors. Keep doors and windows closed as much as possible to prevent the pollen from entering your home.
- Keep pets clean: Washing your pets once a week can help cut back on allergic reactions to pet dander.
