With the blazing heat of summer here, you’ll be using your HVAC system more and more. That’s why it’s important that you’re sure you are getting the most efficiency out of your system as possible. These six strategies will help keep your utility bills down and your system running all season long.
Seal Your Air Ducts
You can lose as much as 20 percent of the conditioned air that you are paying for before it ever reaches its destination. Leaks and gaps in your ductwork can allow this air to leak into the attic and crawlspaces where it becomes wasted. A duct sealant is easy to use and quickly patches these kinds of holes.
Install A Programmable Thermostat
These allow you to have control over your HVAC system, even when you are not in your home. By having it revert to an energy-saving mode while the house is vacant, you won’t be paying to keep an empty house comfortable and you’ll get the most out of your system.
Change Your Air Filters Regularly
When air filters are dirty, the accumulation doesn’t allow air to pass through as easily as it should. By changing them before it becomes a problem, you will keep your HVAC system running efficiently.
Close Vents in Unused Rooms
Closing off rooms that are unoccupied for large portions of the day decreases the workload for your A/C. This will help reduce wear and tear to your air system.
Unclog The Condensate Drains
Poke a stiff wire through to unclog the drains and help them perform optimally. This will improve the dehumidification of your air.
Schedule Preventive Maintenance
Just like a vehicle, your HVAC system needs to be serviced regularly to prevent little problems from developing into big ones. An HVAC specialist will inspect every component to guarantee everything is running as it should. If it has been more than a year since your last maintenance appointment, you need to schedule one immediately.
