Seasons change, but your desire to save money on energy bills remains the same throughout the year. Fortunately for you, the ceiling fans in your home that keep you cool throughout the summer months can also keep you warm and save you money in the coming winter months.
When warm air rises, it accumulates right beneath the ceiling where it gets trapped. This warm air sits there unless it is recirculated through the room. This means that your thermostat will keep the furnace running to heat the air at ground level until the desired temperature is achieved. Since there is already a supply of warm air in the room, all you need to do is force the warmer air downwards towards the floor and the thermostat sensors.
To get the warm air circulating throughout the room, flip the switch on your fan to reverse the fan blades so they are spinning counter-clockwise. By reversing the direction your fan spins, you will be pulling cold air upwards and forcing the warm air downwards and around the edges of the room. This creates a more uniform and even temperature in the room which means your furnace doesn’t have to work as hard to keep you warm. Indeed, we are not just blowing hot air when we tell you that this will save you money and keep your monthly energy bills from burning holes in your wallet this winter!
Since many homes have vaulted ceilings and open stairways leading to second floors, we recommend that you install ceiling fans in your home in these areas where air can accumulate. Not only will they look good and increase the value of your home, but they will help you save money and keep the temperature in your home consistent from floor to ceiling all year long.
